Privacy policy

Summary

This policy explains what the Steady Tally app for iOS (the app) stores, where it is stored, how Apple Health is used, and the choices you have. It is written by Stephane Nguyen (we, us), the developer of the app.

What the app stores

The app stores only what you enter or what you ask it to read from Apple Health:

• Habits: the name, icon, color, tracking type, goal, schedule, category and any habit you stack it after.
• Entries: each log, skip or note, with its time and value (for example 3 glasses, 10 minutes, a 4 out of 5 rating).
• Medication details: the medication name, strength, form, dose times, dose window, tablets on hand and refill settings, and the time of each dose you log.
• Settings: reminder preferences, quiet hours, which Apple Health links are on, whether iCloud sync is on, and onboarding choices.
• An anonymous install identifier: a random value created on your device that marks your own records. It is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID.

Medication and health information can be sensitive. The app treats it the same way as everything else: it stays with you.

Where it lives

On your device. Data is stored in an app container on your iPhone. It is protected by the device passcode and iOS data protection like any other app data.

In your iCloud, if you choose. When iCloud sync is on, the app mirrors its database to the private iCloud database that belongs to your Apple ID, using Apple's CloudKit. Only your Apple ID can read it. We cannot read it, and Apple handles it under the Apple privacy policy and your iCloud terms. You can turn sync off in the app's settings at any time. The app also uses silent push notifications from iCloud so that changes sync between your devices; these carry no content.

In your iPhone backups. Like other app data, Steady Tally data is included in iCloud or computer backups you make of your iPhone.

Nothing is sent to us or to any other company.

Apple Health

Connecting Apple Health is optional. If you turn it on, the app asks iOS for permission to read specific categories and uses them only to complete the matching habit for that day:

The app keeps the resulting habit entry (for example, "Sleep 8 hours: done on September 23"), not the underlying Health records. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with third parties, and never used for any purpose other than the one described here. You can change or revoke access at any time in the Health app under Sharing, or in the app's settings.

Notifications

Reminders, dose alerts, pace nudges and evening summaries are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are only sent if you allow notifications. Medication alerts can be delivered as Time Sensitive, which lets them appear through a Focus; you can change this in the app's notification settings or in iOS Settings. Actions taken from a notification (Taken, +1 glass, Snooze) are logged on your device.

Widgets, Live Activities and Control Center

Widgets, Live Activities, Control Center buttons and Shortcuts actions read from and write to the same database as the app, through an app group on your device. They do not send data anywhere.

What we do not collect

• No account, email address, name or phone number.
• No analytics, crash reporting or usage statistics from us.
• No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
• No location data.
• No third-party software development kits in the app.
• No sale, rental or sharing of personal data with anyone.

Apple may collect crash logs and usage diagnostics from your device if you have opted in to share them with developers in iOS Settings. That collection is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Your controls

• Export: Settings, Export data gives you a JSON file with every habit and entry.
• Delete: Settings, Delete all data removes everything from the device. If iCloud sync is on, the deletion syncs to your iCloud as well. Deleting the app removes its local data.
• iCloud: turn sync off in the app's settings. To remove the synced copy from iCloud, use iOS Settings, your Apple ID, iCloud, Manage Account Storage.
• Apple Health: manage access in the Health app under Sharing.
• Notifications: manage them in the app's settings or in iOS Settings.

Because we hold no copy of your data, requests to access, correct or delete it are things you can do yourself, immediately, with the controls above. If you have a question about any of them, contact us.

This website

The app collects no analytics. This website may use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which sections are read. It runs only after you choose Allow in the banner, and you can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser. The site sets no advertising cookies and shares nothing with Google beyond what Google Analytics collects on our behalf. Google's handling of that data is described in the Google privacy policy, and you can opt out everywhere with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Clicking the App Store link sends an anonymous "app store click" event when analytics is allowed. Tapping the link takes you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies from there.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent where you live), and it does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes how it handles data, for example by adding optional accounts or sync through a service other than iCloud, this policy will be updated first and the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect.
